Ystradgynlais 14 Seven Sisters 13

On a day where the cold weather was victorious over a majority of fields in Wales the dedicated committee of Ystradgynlais were triumphant against Jack Frost.  The blues welcomed Seven Sisters to the Rec, geographically Ystradgynlais’ closest league opponents.

The game started magnificently for Ystrad with flying full back Dominic Williams using his pace to score an early try. He also converted to give Ystrad a seven point lead. Seven Sisters tightened their defence and began working the Blues up front, with particular dominance at the ruck. Two successful penalties from Daniel Short brought Seven Sisters back into within a point of Ystrad. The visitors were certainly winning the territorial battle.

This continued to be the story second half, with Seven Sisters applying constant pressure and came close to taking the lead with a narrowly missed penalty. This did give the Blues a wake up call and from an excellent attack and playing advantage from a penalty Ethan Nichols raced under the post for a try. Dominic Williams added the conversion extending the lead to 8 points.

With 20 minutes to go the Blues were now two scores ahead but Seven Sisters as always are a determined side and kept the pressure on, and soon enough scored a try of there own, this time from Scrum half Kane Griffiths, Short added the extras.

Again Ystrad were forced to front up and managed to tighten up the line out and as in previous weeks displayed some courageous defence. The final whistle came as a huge relief with Ystradgynlais victorious over Seven Sisters for the first time in 17 years.
