Ystradgynlais 15 Maesteg Celtic 0

On a lovely autumns day Ystradgynlais welcomed the visit of Maesteg Celtic for an early 1.30pm kick off. Both sides were missing key players due to injuries and spectating the Wales v Argentina international, which was prominant in the disjointedness of both teams performances.

It was the visitors who began the strongest but a superb defencive attitude from the Blues held stong, a tone that was set to dominate the game. Fortunately on the twenty minute mark for Ystrad Curtis Davies manged to power over for the all important first score. The conversion was missed.

It wasnt long until the lead was extended when outside half Steffan Jones crossed over for a try thanks to a rolling maul. Second row Lawrence was only to happy to covert. This was the final score of the half.

The second half began positvely for the home side with an Emyr Larence penalty extending the lead to fifteen points. This was unbelievably the only score the second half with the only other real chance from with side coming minutes after the penalty which saw a forty meter run from number eight Chris Williams almost creating a try for Ethan Nicholls. So close!

In all fainress a massive credit must go to both sides defence with courage and determination shown by both. This was particulary evident in the closing five minutes with Ystrad down to the thirteen men but the line stood strong.

All in all the experiment of playing games on international day was a success. It will help with game back log and maintain some income into the clubhouses.
