Penlan Program Welcome Address

On behalf of Ystradgynlais RFC I would like to extend a warm welcome to the players, supporters and officials of Penlan  RFC.  Both sides today are well and truly in the promotion hunt in one of the most competitive division within Wales. The last fixture between Ystradgynlais and Penlan was played last May and produced a seventy point feast of running rugby. Supporters of both sides will certainly be hoping for something similar today after quite boring brand of rugby played in the Autumn internationals.

The first team recorded an impressive victory last week at Cwmafan. The game was certainly very close and competitive with the boys in Blue digging deep to secure the win. The victory not only took us up to second place in the table but also secured qualification for the semi finals of the West Wales Bowl. The draw for that competition will be done in the New Year.

USV youth secured an impressive league victory at Nantymoel last Saturday. The win will boost the young player’s confidence as they face Penarth away this Saturday in the Welsh Youth Plate. USV are only three games away from a memorable day at the Millennium stadium. In other development news congratulations to the under 15s who have qualified for the Ospreys cup quarter finals.

This will be our final home game before Christmas. We have a whole host of activities over the festive period which will begin with our famous Christmas jumper day on Saturday 17th December. We would like to encourage all members to wear their festive knitwear and listen to top solo singer Jack Anderson (8pm).

In closing, the club would like to congratulate firstly Mr and Mrs Derryl Watkins on the birth of their baby girl Mared. We would also like to send our best wishes and happiness to Mr and Mrs Rhodri Phillips on the birth of their son Andreas Blenyeth.  Both families have strong historical connections with our club and we are very excited to welcome our two youngest members. Llongyfarchiadau!

‘Have a Blue Christmas’
