Tondu Programme - Welcome Address

On behalf of Ystradgynlais RFC I would like to extend a warm welcome to the players, supporters and officials of Tondu RFC.  Our visitors are currently the form team in our division with some recent impressive victories. Today’s game reignites a league rivalry from the glory days of the Heineken league. During the 90s both Ystradgynlais and Tondu enjoyed huge success and fought out entertaining and physical battles whenever they met. It is fantastic to welcome such a highly respected club back to the Recreation ground.

Last Saturday saw a break from the league with the Welsh National Plate first round. The Blues made the short journey up the Amman Valley to Brynaman where an impressive display secured a 29 – 13 victory. This was a historic day with this being our first ever victory in the Swalec Plate, but too be fair it was only our second ever game in the competition. The draw for the 2nd round has been made with Ystradgynlais gaining a home tie against another old Heineken league adversary in the form of St Peters RFC. Two giant Killers head to head on Saturday 29th October 2016!

Upper Swansea Valley Youth recorded their first away win of the season last Saturday against Briton Ferry Youth. A very competitive display saw the young USV score three well worked tries to secure a comprehensive 30 – 17 win. They currently sit third in the league table and will travel down the valley to Trebanos today.

There will be live music in the lounge this evening from 6pm.  Music will be provided by an outstanding three peace band called ‘Cant Remember’. It’s the young groups debut at the club and entry will be FREE of charge. Please bring dancing shoes and drinking boots.

In closing the club would like to wish both Dan Baker (Ospreys) and Owen Williams (Leicester) good luck for the opening weekend of their teams European campaigns. Both players have hit good form and hopefully have done enough to catch eye of Robert Howley. Also a special mention for Iwan Evans who picked up the man of the match award for Neath on Wednesday. He seems to have become a drop goal specialist of late.

‘Rugby, a game for all shapes and sizes!’
