Ystradgynlais 13 St Peters 18

Two clubs rich in cup history met at Ystradgynlais RFC in the second round of Welsh Plate. To add even more prestige to the encounter not only the home side were coached by an international but the visiting St Peters were lead by Welsh wizard Mark Ring.

The first half saw Ystradgynlais trying to play from all areas of the field but were unfortunately punished by the outstanding kicking display from the St Peters half backs.

Two penalties each were the only scores of the first forty minutes, although Ystrad kicker Emyr Lawrence did uncharacteristically miss two penalties at goal. With the scores all level at the break it was any bodies game.

The second half saw the visitors, commonly referred to as the Rocks start the strongest. Some strong running from the visiting pack resulted in the first try of the game. The scorer the St Peters second row.

The conversion was missed but they soon struck again through their man of the match scrum half who scored off a wonderful line out move. The game seemed to be slipping away from the Blues but fine character and a powerful driving maul resulted in a penalty try.

With now only one score separating the sides the Blues pilled on the pressure with three outstanding breaks not being capitalised upon.

The final whistle blew much to the St Peters delight. Good luck to them in the next round.
