Maesteg Celtic Program Notes

On behalf of Ystradgynlais RFC I would like to extend a warm welcome to the players, supporters and officials of Maesteg Celtic.  Our visitors have recorded two very impressive victories this season with a win over Tondu and a draw away at Penlan. They currently lie in the bottom half of the division but this is certainly a false representation of how good a side our visitors are, a huge challenge for the blues today.

Our last game was a narrow defeat at the hands of St Peters in the Welsh Plate. A game that could genuinely have gone either way left us frustrated at the one that got away. That resulted ended our six match unbeaten streak as we now look to build again today.

Upper Swansea Valley Youth recorded a fantastic friendly victory over a large Ystrad Rhondda youth last Friday. Three tries to one with a bitter sweet day for our barman Robert John. He scored a fantastic try but unfortunately suffered a head injury minutes later. The club would like to pass on our get well wishes to the talented hooker.

The autumn internationals are in full flow and both sets of supporters and players today are invited to join us in the club house today to watch Wales v Argentina. It was a bad day for Welsh rugby last Saturday after a royal thumping at the hands of Australia, but as one of my favourite 90s bands D:Ream once sang ‘Things can only get better’.

In closing the club would like to congratulate Christopher and Ruby Thomas on the birth of their son Ezra Rhys Thomas. Both mother and baby are doing well and I am sure we are all wondering if young Ezra will one day join his father and grandfather Lyn Tom in the exclusive Ystradgynlais front row union!
